I think you're half-correct...
MS is just trying to drag out Live from Windows to avoid the legal issues...
BUT... instead of feeding us a whole new app that we need to install AND maintain (update, sync, maintenance, etc) MS should just release a plug-in that restores Hotmail to Windows Live...
I am very sick and tired of MS's marketing...
